After reflecting on this, this is actally very clever but the writing to some time to get used to
Relato muy duro lleno de metáforas y pausas continuas. Las pausas es debido a las oraciones cortas y la mayoría simples pero que le aportan ese ritmo y angustia que quiere narrar la protagonista. Consigue transmitir su mensaje.

Do not believe ANY word of the synopsis. I REPEAT do not believe any word of the synopsis.
THIS is not a coming off age, rape-culture defying book. This is pure body horror.
THIS is absolutely disgusting and the WORST take on depicting recovery from rape ever. The prose is pseudo-poetic. I get that it was aiming to show scattered fleeting thoughts, but it felt inconsistent, without any emotional depth, forced and plainly grotesque. The whole book uses food as a metaphor for everything except her boyfriend who is somehow different . I have never been more disgusted with food.
Is this suppose to be all a big metaphor?? Probably but why why why why DO IT LIKE THIS!!
Trigger warnings: Rape, gore, murder, animal abuse, cannibalism, self-harm, depression, pregancy talk, BAD BOOK
Read further for spoilers:
She gets raped by a butcher (describes him only in food metaphors), she is bruised, vomitting and bleeding. She goes home, takes a needle and stitches up her vagina. LIKE literally closed. She proceeds to internally bleeding? and her stomach bloats. She thinks she might be pregnant, but of course isn't. She pulls out the stitches and I think blood and puss floats out of her into the bathtub. The butcher stalks her, kills her cat and she kills him with a kitchen knife. She cuts him up into several parts. Afterwards her family makes him into sausages and all eat him at a barbeque.
WTF was that??
Just no.
this is not poetic OR has any point whatsoever. This was purely for schockvalue and trying to trick people into thinking this is good for being different.

Great use of language, strange, surreal and poetic. The story itself is surreal and disturbing. Very dark and disquieting, very crude scenes.

I truly admire the way Emma Glass manages to transform the reading experience into an intense sensory one. I was completely transported into those brutal visceral horrid scenes where I was overwhelmed by a feeling of disgust and yet felt compelled to keep reading. Unfortunately, the effect lessened the more I read on and soon, despite the violence, I was almost unaffected by the same writing style that initially gripped me.

I didn’t know how to feel about this book. The subject matter and the way it was written felt difficult for me.

3.5 out of 5. Very difficult to do this book justice in a review as it's so unique. I can't believe this is Emma Glass' first novel. It feels full and rounded for such a short book which I really liked. Her writing is very poetic; I noticed at the end that one of her favourite writers is James Joyce and you can see his influence here. I was a bit surprised by what happened towards the end; I won't give the plot away but it left me a bit dissatisfied as a reader. There's some interesting and clever use of symbolism in this book which is signposted through a couple of subtle illustrations (although the inclusion of these makes me wonder if the publisher felt the symbolism was clear enough). Harrowing in parts and some may find it triggering, but a very accomplished novel.
