This book was just *chef kiss* Did I skip over most of the smut? Yes. But that’s why we read trigger warnings friends.

Overall, I thought the plot was well thought out and executed very well. I liked the academia setting and it fit with the characters.

I enjoyed Jack and Kyrie’s dynamic a lot. I do wish we got to see a little more of how they were for the past 3 years before the opening scene. I personally think it would’ve solidified the enemies to lovers a little more and would have fleshed out their characters a little more. That being said, that would be the only thing I felt was a bit off about the story…I liked these characters more as a couple than as single characters. I feel like as their own characters they did fall a little flat. Kyrie felt much more real to me that Jack did.

I adored their relationship. Enemies to lovers in a dark romance I’m learning now just hits differently. I loved the reveal of who Kyrie is (I couldn’t help but laugh) and I was surprised to learn who Jack was to her. I enjoyed how after he realized, he actually started to see her in a new light and knew he couldn’t hold himself back any longer.

Now can I just say, every time Jack spoke Danish to Kyrie I absolutely MELTED. The amount of times I said that I shouldn’t be swooning over a serial killer….but here we are. Like I mean…. “Jeg vil være alt for dig, elskede.” Come on! And the flowers!!! Aaaaaa the conservatory. That made my heart so warm when Kyrie realized what it meant.

I definitely can’t wait to read more by these two authors

“Dexter” is one of my favorite TV shows (minus the last season) and I love co-author Brynne’s book, “Butcher and Blackbird” a lot, so I decided to give this one a shot despite the TW.

The parts that I enjoyed the most were directly related to the cat and mouse games between the main characters and the bigger threat at play. I had a harder time with main characters’ relationship pivoting/evolving. It seemed really abrupt at first and kind of shocking? To then have it be tender within days also seemed… unrealistic of both their personalities consider the walls they both had built.
