The Tale of Despereaux: Being the Story of a Mouse, a Princess, Some Soup and a Spool of Thread by Kate DiCamillo (2008)
The kids were quite enthralled with this book and I enjoyed reading it to them. It is a great book to read out loud. The story is told from the point of view of three different characters and then brought together at the end and was an effective device.

I read the book as a child in grade 3. My teacher used to read it in front of the class and i fell in love with the book. I 've read it so many times i pretty much know it the whole story. I loved how original the story was and how the POVs changed through the course of the book. The characters were different and had many parts to them. The movie did it no justice.

Excellent, heartwarming! A good recommendation for kids, like mine, who think the books they read in school are too depressing.
I remember being bored and disappointed by this book. The pace was slow, none of the characters particularly likeable, though the illustrations were good. After reading and loving Because of Winn-Dixie, this book, though by the same author, is very different in style and feel. I wouldn't recommend it to children who loved Winn-Dixie.
the book was much more detailed than the movie. its probably one of the best books i have read.
