Very immersive & great prose. The modern reading experience unfortunately suffers from how ingrained the central concept of Jekyll and Hyde is in pop culture, but still a great read.
i really enjoyed this one. the story itself hold up, it’s way more than just the pop culture “monster trope”. it’s a tight, genuinely tense psychological thriller that stands the test of time. steve son’s prose is sharp and the mystery unfolds perfectly.
the pacing threw me off a bit, but other than that, really do recommend.

Holds up really well given its age - the best parts of the book come from Stevenson's ability to put you in the historic setting, pretty easy thing to overlook and it's what makes the book digestible in 2025. The story itself is obviously well known

I kept waiting to be gripped, but instead found myself a bit bored. Maybe it's because the Jekyll/Hyde concept has become so ingrained in our culture that the original story feels less impactful? Or maybe the pacing just didn't work for me.
If you're into Gothic literature or studying the classics, it's still worth reading…It's short, after all. But if you're looking for a classic that really pulls you in, there are others I'd recommend before this one.
