I wholeheartedly recommend this book to all dog owners who are aware that we, humans, are animals, too.
This book is a perfect mix of behavioral science, autobiography and touching storytelling about a life shared with dogs.
If you are not searching for a way to “crack the code on canine behavior” but would rather know how dogs experience the world and YOU, read this book.
It would make it way easier for you and your companions not to get frustrated at each other for speaking different languages.

I thought this book had some really interesting insights, and there are definitely some things I will incorporate into training and living with my rescue dog.
I was really reading everything in the beginning, but a few chapters in, when she started going on and on about the differences between primates and humans, I started to get a bit bored. Not that it isn't interesting material, but it's not what I thought I was getting in a book about dogs. I feel like she could've mentioned her background and cut out the in-depth paragraphs of human/primates but given us a summary that related back to the dog more quickly. As it was, I started skimming when I saw the word 'primate' too heavily.
I liked the personal stories of her dogs and her animal behavior clients, and all in all, I'm glad I read it. I'm using her techniques on teaching my dog to 'fetch' (he's one that isn't really into the game at first) and they are definitely working well.

This is an excellent book for any dog owner! So insightful into our relationship with each other. If every dog lover read this we would have even better relationships with and understanding of the animals so many of us love.

Very excellent book on why dogs and humans interact and behave as they do. One of the best dog behavior books I've read.
