Stan again weaves his masterful story telling abilities to combine history, philosophy and his personal experiences to explore the impact of the White Queen dying. This is a very timely book and I think reading it so close to its publication date meant everything was already at the forefront of my mind.

This book explores the construct of Whiteness and its subsequent position to Black. This book not only focused on the effects of British colonisation on the First Nations community of Australia but explored its historic effect on the world. As someone who prefers ancient history, I found these explorations easy to follow, interesting and also very important for me to know.

I think out of all of Stan’s books that I have read (this is my third), this one was the most reflective experience and made me re-examine my ideas the most. This highlights the importance of reading from people that are different to you (in any way that may be) as Grant’s perspective made me evaluate my own.

As I’ve been reading through Grant’s catalogue I have noted some similar themes and whilst there is nothing wrong with that, reading them quite close to each other meant I sometimes knew where he was going with a point before he arrived there. My advice is to space his work out as I think he has an important voice that deserves to be listened to.

Loved everything, except for the chapter called Love, just felt a bit disjointed, confusing, and of the things I did understand, they didn't particularly resonate with me

Essential reading. Thanks SG. Let's go forward and resist the destructive myth of Whiteness. Let's know other worlds and ways of being again. May the many old languages of so called Australia flourish again.

It’s actually really disappointing to see how very few reviews and ratings. The Queen is Dead is so eloquently written and challenges Australians to have a very necessary and much over due discussion about our countries past, present and future.
