This series has so goddamn much to offer in any direction. Just always holy hell.

East of West vol 8 is heating up. I'm very excited about next volume with how this volume went. The series has been very consistently good, but this is one of the better volumes. It's all coming to an end.

It continues from last volume following Death and his son and the other working parts of the series. But like other volumes Death and the Beast steal the show.

If you've read up to this point it's worth continuing, if you're reading this before having started the series it's worth checking out.

4 stars.

Ah! This volume feels like the end is getting much closer and the stakes are so high that everything that happens could be the end of a character's journey. I appreciated that there were funny moments in this volume, especially with an ending like that. So good.

Pretty sick how this series doesn't seem to be losing steam at all. One of the few comics I'm truly excited to see on the shelf every time there's a new volume.

The pacing has noticeably changed in this volume. Instead of continually slowly building more and more of this mysterious world, they clearly decided it needs to wrap up soon, and there's just too many characters, especially protagonists we've been led to like, so some have to die. Which is ok (it's what makes Game of Thrones great), but the portrayal of the character seemed to change leading up to the death, i.e. once Hickman had decided who would die, he simply couldn't invest in them any longer by giving them any endearing airtime, relegating them to an extra in their own story. I'm still fascinated by this series, and think he really pushed himself as a creator, but this felt a little like he's getting tired of it.

Clearly, we are setting up for the final arcs of the series and while I feel sad about all of this, it does feel exciting to see all the pieces being placed. I'm looking forward to seeing what comes next for each nation and player here.

Wow this series ended like that? Wtf? Is this unfinished? Did the audience lose interest and they stopped writing it? What a shitty way to end this....

Yeah, a bit more of Death and his son! And, Death is cluing in that Balloon is not quite what it seems to be.

Also, the main players keep taking themselves out of the "game". I'm curious how this will end.

Death and his son take a holiday to get to know each other. Two volumes left and Chosen are starting to die. The "Three" Horsemen continue to be mean, willy-nilly killing "meat" whenever they come across it, but so far they have not affected the EOW story line to any large extent. However, I am sure in the final volumes, they will show up to the table. Also, the Hunter starts to take a bigger role; while it initially he seemed like he was a throw-away character just getting in the way of the main story line, it now looks like he may end up a major player in how EOW and the end of the world turn out.
