I wanted to love this more than I did. The pace was just a bit too slow for me. The setting was magnificently realised, the characters walked the perfect line between bold caricature and human nuance, and the fairytale elements were just perfect. But the plot dragged for me, and I lost interest at various points.

Still giving it 4 stars because of the beautiful writing, and my suspicion that I may have enjoyed it more as a physical read than an audiobook.
