i saw the words enchanting and haunting used in many of the reviews for this book and now that i’m finished reading it, i can definitely see why.
though the plot was pretty slow for a good majority of the story, i didn’t mind. the writing was so engaging and the tale it told was woven together seamlessly.
the setting and the characters felt so real to me, especially when listening to the audiobook as i read along.
i’m so looking forward to reading the next installment in this trilogy.

I know nothing of the Russian(?) folklore, so this was super new for me! It was very interesting to read from the beginning and how it tied into the end. I’m excited to see how the rest of the trilogy goes! It was just a bit slow for me, but better by the end!

I was surprised by this one--very well written with surprising depth. Feels like immersion in another world, even though the "other world" is a fantastical 14th century Russia. The Russian folklore is fascinating and the characters are engrossing. Overall very much enjoyed and looking forward to finishing the trilogy.
