These books actually get better and better the farther you get in them. Like this book has so much substance and slight mystery itβs so fun to see how the story changes from the original structure while still keeping the whimsy from the first books!
To anyone who's on an earlier book (especially the first four) and want to know if it gets better - this is the book you want to get to. If i were to recommend this series to someone, i might actually tell them to skip the first four, if not the first three.
The series has done a great job in building suspense so far and there is much reward in this one for diligently following along, which is why I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm also enjoying the moral questions that the Baudelaires must ask themselves as they pursue their goals, which necessarily forces character progression and make them feel much more dynamic than the first four books protrayed.
Lastly, I'm a sucker for the stupidly comedic things written. Somehow, though the tone of the story is always dark (at least ask dark as it should be for a younger audience), it's always paired with a sort of whimsy or dark comedy that gets me. Very xylophone book.
