I have always been a huge fan of Nicholas Sparks and always adored his books. The Longest Ride was no exception. It did in some ways remind me of some previous pieces of his that I've read but no on the whole. The way it was written is plain and siple something I look for in a book.
The characters were wonderful especially Ira and Ruth. Their story is the thing of fairytales. The life and marriage is something that seems so out of reach in the modern world anymore. Sofia and Luke were so sweet. There really isn't any other word to describe what they were.
Overall this story is one that will stay with me.

What a refreshing read! There is the POV of Ira... who was in an accident and relives the life of his deceased wife Ruth while trapped in the vehicle. Then there's Sophia and Luke. Luke lives on a ranch with his mother. Luke is a bull rider... a complete cowboy. Sophia is from New Jersey studying at Wake Forest. Luke is doing all he can to save the ranch whilst Sophia finishes school, needing to search for a job so she doesn't end up having to live back home with her parents, working in their deli. They are two different worlds but in part, so much alike. In this wonderful story, it shows how lives from all different worlds are intertwined.

I watched the movie first. I enjoyed the book overall but I found Ira's chapters too long and a little bland. I think the book needed more detail.
For some reason, I identified with The Longest Ride more than other Sparks books. Maybe it was because the protagonist is a Jersey girl with cowboy boots on. Either way, another well-written beauty from Sparks.
3.75 stars. With Nicholas Sparks, you know exactly what you are going to get. Take some tragedy paired with true love and something "heartwarming" and coincidental and there you have it. However, even though I know exactly what to expect, I always enjoy it! This was just like all of his others, but it was a good story. I was always looking forward to when I could next listen to it. There were two stories told at the same time, and I enjoyed both of them. Ruth and Ira's story was good, although not a whole lot happened in it. Sophia and Luke's story moved more quickly, but so I enjoyed them fairly equally. I got exactly what I was expecting, but that was exactly what I wanted. I need to see the movie now!
Spoiler
connected to Ruth's desire for a child more,
Just like every Nicholas Sparks book I have read, I had moments where I was so giddy and the smile on my face wouldn't go away.
But unfortunately, there were more moments of me just hoping something would happen... ASAP.
I'd watched the film before deciding to read this book, so I went into this with high expectations. The movie is one of my favorites and I could not wait to be able to actually read about this love and fall in all over again.
But after the first few chapters, I just knew I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as I thought I would have. Much of the story was just dragging on and I kept finding myself becoming slightly bored. I honestly felt that I was lucky to have fallen in love with the characters BEFORE reading this story, otherwise I wouldn't have gone through this book as fast as I did.
Overall, I liked the book, but it is not my favorite of Nicholas Sparks.

Now, I don't normally read romance novels, nonetheless, Nicholas Sparks romance novels. But, this was ok. Nothing more, nothing less. If anything I would give this 1.5 stars, just for the ending alone.
I enjoyed the story but not the writing. Sophie and Luke's love story seemed a little too unrealistic for my likings and unfortunately overshadowed the better of the two love stories, Ira and Ruth's.
I read this in the airport right before my first ever flight. Maybe my nerves had something to do with it, or maybe it's because I'm not into the country/ranch/cowboy vibe, but this wasn't my best experience with NS. I liked it, it just wasn't close to the ones that hold the special place in my heart.
