Really fucking weird.
Not what I was expecting, I think the blurb does it a great disservice. I went in thinking climate change, Annihilation vibes or maybe a children's bible. It wasn’t!
I don’t think this book really worked the way I wanted it to either.  As i mentioned the blurb really doesn’t describe this book right and I think it’s a shame because I think it could really work for others!

This book wanted to be sublime, but it was rather boring and shallow. Things were disgusting for the sake of disgust and nothing else, it felt deptless, in which the narrator wasn't helping with her one dimensional tone either.
I was disappointed, I awaited this book to be similar to Jeff VanderMeer's Southern Reach trilogy and got this meaningless crap.

Not for me! I can appreciate the dark atmosphere, but I thought the writing was over the top (could be the translation, idk) and the fragmented stories didn’t make much sense as standalones or as a collective novel.

2.5 but rounded up

Maybe I'm just not ~deep~ enough to get this but.... this didn't work for me. Vaguely connected tableaus, no world building or character development to fall back on or use to make sense of what's going on, it just felt super disconnected and confusing and incoherent.

It was ok.  I like the idea but not the execution, the perspective changed so much I don’t feel I really got attached to anyone, even Laura.  Also don’t think there was any reason the first chapter had to start with the assault it did.
