this was hard to read and to rate. I do believe the author has a magnetic way to explore Margaret's story that made the reading experience unique, in good and bad ways.
I related so badly with the way Margo was when it came to expressing herself and her feelings and the way she held on to others' people's words to do it.
the drive of this book wasn't linear and, in some ways, was a bit all over the place what was trying to transmit and comment on.
I think this type of books you read it for the prose and to start a conversation about the different themes the story goes through.
the family dynamics were so fascinating, but the one dynamic I would have enjoyed to see more was Margo and Biddy's friendship.
I recommend checking trigger warnings before reading .
I don't know how to feel about this one.
The story covers molestation and its effects on survivors of it in adulthood, but it does it in a way that is... light?
Margaret's voice maintains a very childish tone regardless of whether we are in her childhood, interacting with her young daughters, or skirting confrontation with her overbearing mother.
There is very little character development; the people important to Margaret's like are very one-dimensional, caricatures lightly drawn, barely there. It's hard to get close to anyone or to feel very much emotion. Given the topic, I was expecting to feel much stronger anger, pity, disgust, anything. Overall, it feels like we are floating around above Margaret as opposed to zooming in and getting a close look at anything.
Perhaps this is on purpose, to illustrate the denial that Margaret's mother and brother live in and that they force Margaret to live in as a result.
Maybe that's the significance of the title.
This wasn't a bad book, but I didn't enjoy it.

This started slowly and somewhat tediously for me but it grew on me. Unresolved trauma and various dysfunctional family “stuff”.
