Fantastic book with a incredible action packed ending. My only complaint would be of the slow start and big build up. If you can get pass the building then the story won’t disappoint.

Well, this is the fourth or fifth time that I've read This Present Darkness, though it has been *many* years since my last perusal.

It is *obvious* that this book was written in the '80s. That aside, it is still an enjoyable read. That said, reading it as a more well-rounded adult, outside the conservative Christian circles I was nutured in, the simplistic antagonism against "liberal" churches, yoga and other religious views is occasionally annoying.

Even with these limitations, I still find myself spell-bound with the vivid word pictures that Peretti draws of the battle between angels and demons. From the first reading until now, I love the way that he has captured the simple, ethereal beauty of angels hidden, celebrating and at war. While we never know how the prayers of the saints actually impact the spiritual battles, I like to think that Peretti has given us a glimpse.

"For the saints of God and for the Lamb!"

Nothing to do with the content. Strictly the writing. It felt lazy and forced.

So to fully understand why I love this book, you would need to have been there the first time I read it. Visualize... It's new year's eve... It has been raining steadily for hours, and as the finial minutes of the year come close, a monster thunderstorm rolls in. The lights in our house flicker... And die. The lightening keeps on flickering though... eerily... Our family is all together in the shadowy living room, and we are reading this book aloud, by flashlight...
It's the story of a single battle in The War; the mighty clash between host of Heaven and the hords of Hell: the war for the world.
Peretti writes a mean thriller, and in that setting, I was totally caught up in the story he wove: the way he imagined it would be if we could see the angels and demons at war around us. Definably recommend this book!

Ok I know that was a dramatic review but I'm not sorry
