Murder mystery, meets high society, with a gothic estate and ghost. It was all the makings of a great story and to some degree, it was. Could it have been 100 pgs shorter...ABSOLUTELY!
But...I can't be sure the plot holes and lengthy sense aren't followed up on in book 2.
And the cliffhanger...hmmm well well... if fate has it.
I am not sure I want book 2. This was a soild read, but definitely a maybe.

Very superficial and predictable romance and fantasy, even though that’s indeed something i expect from a (real) YA fantasy, so yes
it was not for me bc it looked like there was the need to try to make the book be more than it actually is… and also bc i am a 27 yo reading a YA yk but even though i always try my best to rate taking that in mind

I was actually surprised by how much I wanted to continue reading this book. It's the kind of YA that is good to read at a later age and doesn't have childish 'I like him but does he like me???' teenage angst in it, although there's a bit of a romantic subplot/triangle thing going on. (One side kind of doesn't develop?) I don't know, you have to read the story to see what I mean.
So as Signa is an interesting character to follow (it's a pity that the family she ends up in is so broken), and the murder plot is so intriguing, I'd definitely recommend this book to both younger and older readers.
