I picked up this book without reading the synopsis and was pleasantly surprised. The blend of mystery and horror was fantastic, and the story moved along at a compelling pace. The characters were intriguing and held my attention, though I felt the romantic element was a letdown. What was labeled as a romance felt more like a one-sided relationship.

How do you masterfully weave gothic literature, paranormal romance, fantasy, and mystery into one beautiful story? This is how. Also, Iām tragically disappointed at how not ONE person has mentioned that this is a Secret Garden retelling with a small dash of Phantom. This book is stunning.

If you're going to read this I highly recommended the audiobook.
The voice of Death was so damn perfect - I was shocked that it was a single (female) narrator - that woman is talented and has some serious range!
Excellent vibes and atmosphere - haunting, gothic, fairytale. I enjoyed the mystery and the romance with Death was top notch!

I think the concept is so unique. I love that the main focus of the book is not the main characters stupidity driving the plot. Yes she makes mistakes and has to feel those mistakes the main focus is the general mystery of the book.
