This is a unique, gothic, and mysterious story.
I went into it with such high expectations and I’m so surprised that it met them and exceeded them.
I loved the murder mystery and most, I loved being surprised by the reveal. I loved sitting there and watching the pieces click together and being like, “this makes so much sense, I can’t believe I didn’t think of it!”
To be fair, Adalyn Grace’s writing is so beautiful that I was so distracted and wasn’t busy theorising.
The plot twists were great, one I did see coming but could appreciate how well it was done!
THE ROMANCE!!! This beautiful, haunting romance!!! Every interaction between Death and Signa is 10/10 perfection. The tension, the build up, so amazing.

Books in which Death is a character are apparently my thing, as are books set in the time of etiquette guides. This was a fun ride.

This is a new ya fantasy that i dont hate!!! I liked the writing style; it was easy to read, consistent, and interesting. My favorite part are somewhat dark conversations concerning death or with Death.
Signa is a fun character. I liked her battle between politeness and honesty. It is annoying that a large part of her decision was influenced by the romance.
The most concerning part of the book for me is the romance. Death cannot touch or speak to anyone, so he falls for the very first girl that he can communicate with. Idk if that’s romance… it just seems like he has no other options. Not to mention, he meets signa when she is a literal baby. I know that the author explains it as fate or whatever, but that doesn’t get rid of the moral problems. I also hate that there was a stupid love triangle. There was no purpose for it at all.

Really liked this even though some of the writing felt kinda awkward. The mystery was really good and definitely the strongest part of the book. I don’t know how I feel about the fact that this is getting a sequel though
