What I liked:
- always, always here for a gothic setting
- I liked the way this story was handled: enough mystery and nuance that I actually didn’t see the twist coming

What I didn’t:
- it’s definitely a little slow in the beginning, but give it a chance because once things fuse it’s genuinely so great

Overall:
The idea of this story felt like a hard pill to swallow and I’ll admit that I went into it maybe a little critical. However, here at the end this was genuinely well-crafted, builds nicely, and I will certainly be reading book 2.

I'm a little bummed this story didn't grip me like I thought it would. I'm normally very into gothic settings, but something about this one just didn't do it for me. It's possible it's because I wasn't expecting a murder mystery, but I think it may have more to do with the fact that I never really felt much for the characters and their relationships. The relationship between Signa and Death felt odd to me, and something about Signa's character just grated.

As of right now, I'm unsure if I will continue with the series.
