After falling head over heels for another male/male romance (shoutout to The Charm Offensive for ruining me in the best way), I was on the hunt for something with a similar vibe—witty, emotionally rich, and a bit chaotic. Boyfriend Material came highly recommended, and while it wasn’t a perfect match, it was still an incredibly fun ride.
We follow Luc O’Donnell, the somewhat reluctant son of a tabloid-famous rock star, whose reputation is in dire need of a polish. Enter the solution: a fake relationship with someone squeaky clean. His friend suggests Oliver—an uptight, ethical barrister with a fondness for kale and disdain for mess. Naturally, sparks (and sass) fly.
At first, I wasn’t entirely sold on Luc. He’s messy, self-deprecating, and absolutely allergic to vulnerability—which, to be fair, is kind of the point. But the beauty of Alexis Hall’s writing is in the slow unraveling: by the end, I was fully rooting for Luc (and wanting to give him a warm cup of tea and a hug).
What kept this from being a five-star read for me was the single POV. I found myself desperate for a glimpse inside Oliver’s head. He’s such a complex character, and having his perspective could’ve added more depth and emotional resonance. (Give me the dual POV crumbs, please!)
Still, I devoured this in about a day and a half, and I’m already reaching for book two. If you like awkward flirtation, British banter, and fake dating that becomes anything but, this one’s worth a spot on your TBR.

Wow, este libro fue tan emocionante. Necesitaba leer un libro que me dejara mariposas en el estómago y este fue el perfecto. Fue rápido meterse dentro de la trama y me encantó conocer a los personajes a fondo.
Es la primera vez que leo un libro de este tipo, y fue exquisito ver los personajes crecer y madurar de una manera tan peculiar. La comedia me gustó demasiado, y lo mismo la forma de narrar de Luc. Ver como este pretexto de novios falsos evolucionó a ser una relación real fue tan heartwarming. Aunque ya veía desde el inicio que estos dos iban a enamorarse desde su primer encuentro.
Oliver es una persona demasiado inteligente pero vulnerable, me encanta su personalidad y como trata de hacer a Luc feliz.

Amo como es tan metido en su trabajo y sus ganas de ayudar a personas. Sus conversaciones con Luc me hicieron sonreír, no tengo suficientes palabras para describir esta relación. Aún así, el tiene un gran camino por delante para ajustar su vida.
Luc es alguien que ha tenido que pasar por momentos muy duros y personales, el abandono de su padre desde su infancia pero el aparente hallazgo de cancer el cual Luc deberá pensar en la decisión de querer o no conocerlo. Su madre es una persona tan maravillosa y lo apoya en cada decisión que toma.
La autora abordó temas profundos de una manera maravillosa, espero leer otro libro de ella.
El final fue tan lindo, y además no es el típico "felices para siempre" sino que aún deben enfrentarse a muchos problemas que tienen, pero al menos ya se tienen el uno para el otro para poder seguir adelante.
Luc Y Oliver son una pareja muy hermosa y no puedo esperar a leer el siguiente libro de esta saga. Me siento feliz que este libro no sea un standalone, porque tiene mucho potencial para seguir desarrollándose.

This book was slow to start, but eventually picked up around chapter 8. The rest of the book was funny, romantic, witty, tender, and just downright enjoyable! Definitely recommend!
