This book was written by someone who wandered in my brain, pulled out my most favorite tropes, and wrote a book that slaps. This was everything I want in a romance book, or really any book. Someone asked me how I feel knowing that I already read my favorite book of the year? Well kind of sad but also I can reread it later this year. Also the audiobook slaps so hard. The narrator was so good, the mom's voice? Perfection. I just loved this book so much!

Okay so I started this book with 0 expectations whatsoever and ended laughing out loud on numerous occasions, sobbing uncontrollably or smiling to the book as if I was reading love songs.
The characters show what normally lacks in rom coms like this, a development arc you actually feel something for.
I'd totally be up for a sequel so to know what Luc and Oliver would be up in the future.

I am bored. DNF at 81%. I'm of the opinion that no romance book should ever exceed 350 pages, at the absolute most. This one is, of course, longer and I feel like it could've and should've wrapped up and be done at the 80% mark.
I can say that I genuienly enjoyed some parts of this book. There was some dialogue in there that actually made me laugh out loud, which rarely happens when I consume any type of media. But oh my god why the hell was this story told from (just) Lucs perspective? I really don't understand how people can enjoy reading about such an insecure, self-loathning, grown man. I find it so tiresome to read about people who hate themselves and second guess literally the tiniest things and don't understand how anyone can think 'yeah this is fine. I suppose it is because they can relate, but why would you want to read a book that only confirms and validates your own bad ideas about yourself?
You know, becoming a better person because of your partner can be a good thing. But this entire story just felt like Luc was clinging onto Oliver for dear life to give him any type of security. Being dependable on your partner for your own happiness is not a 'healthy relationship', it's not even close to resembeling a healthy relationship. Even though this book certainly likes to claim it.
I'm so tired of insecurity fueled miscommunications, or miscommunications in general. For the love of god please stop using this plot device in books. It's not cute or funny or charming or anything but tired.
Then there's some other slightly problematic stuff, though I can excuse them based on the fact that they were said by characters, and that might just be part of their personality/characterization. Then you have the very questionable motivations of the main characters, the one-dimensional side characters, the whole 'dad-rockstar with cancer' thing that I honestly felt wasn't really dealt with well (as far as I read). Also, whyever would tabloids be interested in the life of an abandoned son of an old rockstar? That just makes no sense. Most people don't even know all of the children from very famous people. Like Will Smiths other son? That one other daughter that Trump has? We know of them, kind of, because someone on the internet posted a meme 'TIL Will Smith has another son', but no one is interested in the things they're doing. They're not followed by the papperazzi or anything. It's just such a weak and dumb set-up.
All in all, its too long, too slow, too angsty. It has some fun bits but even those fun bits get overdone and become boring. Would not recommend.
