AHH what a great ending to this trilogy 😭
I knew some of the things that would happen based on the show, but it was still shocking when things came true. Poor Nikolai, poor Mal, poor Alina, even poor Aleksander.
Highly recommend this book!!

The only reason I gave this one four stars instead of five is because she ends up with Mal and not Nikolai… but I guess this was to be expected.

I feel like the first two books don’t even compare to this third one. Alina was actually an enjoyable main character, and she had a wonderful array of friends around her to support and compliment her. The plot was quick and action-packed, and the connections made between characters and the history of Ravka were great. It all made sense and didn’t feel like it was made up on the spot.

The only two things I really couldn’t stand in this were the Apparat, who really added nothing to the entire series, and Mal, whose ā€œI am an unfeeling sword to defend youā€ thing was just so frustrating. Like, we get it - I know you can’t be with her, but stop being such a loser about it and man up and admit YOU ARE UPSET! Don’t act as if you have no feelings - that always kind of bothers me when characters do this.

Anyway, that’s my two cents. Bardugo really did great with this finish and I look forward to reading more of her stuff

I really enjoyed the first two thirds of the book but the last one really ruined it for me. I absolutely hated the ending and the pacing was weird.
Mal being the amplifier was the cheapest twist there could've been. She killed the darkling way too easily. Mal should've stayed dead and the only reason he's alive is plot armor. The fact she lost her powers and they got transferred to others pissed me the hell off.

This is the least I have ever gotten out of a series before. Characters barely develop and barely anything happens. I felt like this could have made a better duology than a trilogy. Much of this was predictable (the darkling is evil? shocker), with the story running in circles around three plot points. Also, her becoming so infatuated with the darkling so quickly was jarring. This read like a fanfiction of a series rather than the series proper.
