I enjoy this author’s writing style and these characters, but I had such a hard time reading this book at first. These characters were very lusty (they started as a one night stand turned multiple nights, and the characters kept looking back on that hook up) and it often felt like there wasn’t a lot in their relationship besides the lust. I really liked both characters but it took a long time for the characters to get past just revisiting the past dalliances in their memories. I appreciated Beckett’s struggle with social anxiety/overstimulation and Evelyn’s efforts to find herself, but their utter lack of communication as their relationship evolved (especially at the end of the book) was so infuriating. This book maintains the small town feel of the first which I enjoyed. While I love these characters, I didn’t love them together as they were figuring stuff out, especially with how dense they were when loved ones gave them great advice and then they just shut down 😑 they both really suck at relationships. So it was nice to have the epilogue and bonus chapter to put their stable relationship into more context after all the communication/expectation issues resolved themselves.

So this is my favorite of the three books in the series out so far. It's not saying much, because I should have loved Lovelight Farms, but it was disappointing, and I forced myself to finally Mixed Signals thinking that it would get better (imo it didn't). However pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed this one overall.
Maybe it's the Hallmark channel of it all - big city/well traveled FMC is burnt out from her job as an influencer, and goes back to the last place she was happy. Which was in a small town where she unexpectedly runs into a one night stand. He's a possibly grumpy farmer (though he reads neurodivergent - doesn't deal well with crowds, or noisy places), with a big heart and takes in stray animals.
Based on Beckett's activities in Lovely Farms, I really expected more stray animals.
Also, I think Evelyn is supposed to be BIPOC. There's a few mentions of her dark skin, but that's it. Additionally a mention of making a family curry recipe. But nothing else that would indicate she's not white.

I picked this up because I fancied reading an independently published adult romance, and I'd seen a few friends reading it recently. (Also the cover is just lovely.) But sadly, I was pretty disappointed. I found the pacing slow and the characters quite bland. There was one great spicy scene and one great angsty scene, but apart from that I spent a lot of this book feeling bored and disconnected. Perhaps it's just me and I wasn't in the headspace for a slow-paced, leisurely romance, but I'm not sure I'll be picking up the rest of the books in the series.
