I loved it, but I would have liked a bit more plot in some places and a bit less in others. The pacing was a uneven. Certain parts dragged then sped up too quickly by comparison. It would have been perfect with either ~50 more pages to really delve into the big plot conflict or the action starting to ramp up sooner.

Surprising!

The first book I have read by Ms Quinn and this one definitely took me by surprise. It started slowly, but after the first half was done things moves incredibly quickly between the not-quite sensible Poppy and the mysterious Captain James.
