This audiobook was a fun, fluffy read. Wrapped up a little to quickly/easily for my taste but I get why. RTC
(And yes, this is my second Julia Quinn after reading [b:The Duke and I|56468652|The Duke and I (Bridgertons, #1)|Julia Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1609249697l/56468652._SY75_.jpg|846763].)
I have a lot of Julia Quinn's books to read over the next few months. I have (let me check my Kindle): [b:The Viscount Who Loved Me|25322244|The Viscount Who Loved Me (Bridgertons, #2)|Julia Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1439470047l/25322244._SY75_.jpg|3363], [b:Romancing Mister Bridgerton|56947799|Romancing Mister Bridgerton (Bridgertons, #4)|Julia Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1612454777l/56947799._SY75_.jpg|659482], [b:To Sir Phillip, With Love|34615256|To Sir Phillip, With Love (Bridgertons, #5)|Julia Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1489784409l/34615256._SY75_.jpg|13341300], [b:When He Was Wicked|56710178|When He Was Wicked (Bridgertons, #6)|Julia Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1610988166l/56710178._SY75_.jpg|1118162] & [b:Because of Miss Bridgerton|27835258|Because of Miss Bridgerton (Rokesbys, #1)|Julia Quinn|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1448407017l/27835258._SY75_.jpg|45479802]. And you can thank/blame Connie from Connie Reads for this. But, because I can never seem to read a series in order, I decide to skip several books/series and audiobook a prequel novel from companion prequel series, The Rokesbys.
While walking along the Dorset coast, Poppy Bridgerton discovers a smugglers' hideaway tucked inside a cave. But her delight turns to dismay when two pirates discover her there and then decide to kidnap her and take her aboard a ship, leaving her bound and gagged on the captain's bed.
Except they're not so much smugglers as privateers and the captain, one Andrew James Rokesby, isn't so much a privateer as a former Navy officer who's now essentially a spy for the Crown, transport important documents and cargo. And his family are, basically, her family's neighbours in Kent. Looks like Andrew will have to keep one or two secrets from Poppy as, due to an important deadline, he has to kidnap her and take her to Portugal. But the more time the two spend together, sparks fly as she can't leave the Captain's quarters and he has nowhere else to sleep and they bond over jigsaws, reading, star gazing and trying to outsmart each other in a war of wits.
Romance at sea is one thing. But will these two get they happily ever after together once their feet are on dry land?
This was fun. It was a fun, fluffy audiobook romance where I rooted for the characters to kiss. It's not going to be ground-breaking literature - you know you're going to get kissing and sexual tension, a dash of danger with a happily ever after and babies - but you go with it because of the fun factor! This was fun!
I do think the ending was wrapped up a little too quickly and a little too easily with all that had happened, but it was a fun, happy read. Am now trying to figure out if I should read VISCOUNT WHO LOVED ME or BECAUSE OF MISS BRIDGERTON next...

So lovely!! Loved the characters, the dialogue was awesome, and the plot was great! I thought this book was as exactly as long as it needed to be with as many plot points and characters as it needed. Another solid from JQ
This book has great writing, and yes it is predictable, but aren't most of this genre? I did not realize there were other books in this series until after I read it, and I feel it does well as a standalone. My only problem is that they fool around and sleep together right before the end. It is a romance book so it's expected, I suppose, but it seemed to me that if they were SO adamant the entire book to keep her "pure," why didn't they just wait the extra week or so when they got married? Overall, I enjoyed the characters and how maddening they were to each other.

Despite the preposterous initial premise (my tolerance for those is typically fairly high, because why not?), for awhile this had some promise because the development of the relationship between the leads was a bit more thoughtful than usual. But then the kidnapping scene ruined it. Whyyyyyy?
