Vacationing in a small seaside town, the adventurous Miss Poppy Bridgerton is minding her own business exploring a cave when she finds herself kidnapped and tied to a bed on a pirate ship. Captain Andrew James Rokesby has no time for beautiful yet willful women when he has important documents to deliver for the British government. Thrown together on the voyage, Poppy and Andrew soon find that their snarky banter conceals an intense attraction, but will she be so accepting when she learns the secrets he is keeping?

Unfortunately, this installment in the Bridgerton saga does not live up to expectations.

Poppy and Andrew's romance does not develop realistically. Yes, they are thrown together and their feelings evolve from anger to attraction, but this is clearly a case of Stockholm Syndrome rather than true love. Moreover, they have little chemistry to speak of and their supposedly witty banter falls decidedly flat.

I will refrain from revealing how things turn out, but suffice it to say that the unrealistic kidnapping is not the only abduction in the storyline and the second isn't any more believable than the first.

All in all, Julia Quinn's romances are usually engaging, but this is not the finest example of her work. Hopefully, the last book will be better.
