The format is unusual and challenging to follow at first. Stick with it and you'll find that it works in the end. There is a lot of medical terminology that is not so difficult to comprehend. Mainly the surviving sister is introspective about her own life/relationships/choices while she attempts to solve her sisters murder.

Particularly touching and believable if you have a strong sister or female relationship. The ending was too abrupt for me after the story was well told and unraveled slowly.

This is a mystery that will also satisfy a desire for a strong novel. A sister living in New York finds out that her younger sister in London has gone missing. . . . and the plot unfolds from there. Narrated by the older sister, the novel develops strong characters and captures family dynamics well. It is also a page-turner--right to the very finish!

Spoilt for me by an awful, contrived and unconvincing ending. Up until the last 50 or so pages I’d quite enjoyed this (reading group) book even though I don’t normally read murder stories. What a let down.

Wow! I read the entire book in one setting; I stayed up until 3 AM because I just had to know how it ended. This book is not a "thriller" in the traditional sense. The entire book is written as a letter to Tess from her sister Bee. There is a mystery, but the book is more about the very strong bond between the two sisters and working through grief and anger. The first chapter was a little jerky because Bee went back and forth in time, but once I caught on to the method, the book flowed easily. As other reviewers have stated, the summary on the back cover is a little misleading. You find out relatively early in the book that Tess is dead. The police rule it a suicide but Bee knows that Tess would never take her own life. Throughout the rest of the book, Bee tries to find out who killed her sister. She names several killers and the police stop following her leads because they deem her to be depressed about her sister's death and unable to accept "the truth" that her sister committed suicide. The ending was a total shocker. Lupton doesn't reveal what actually happened because that would deter from the letter from Bee to Tess approach. There are two possible endings and to be honest, I'm now sure which one actually happened. I know which one I hope happened. In hindsight, I can see that there were some clues throughout the book, but I didn't realize what they meant when I first read them.

The closeness between the sisters carries this psychological thriller to the very end. The ending was a surprise that I did not see coming.

It took me awhile to finish this one. I found it interesting, but with extra real life commitments interrupting, it wasn't compelling enough to make it a priority.

Fairly unpredictable book, quite enjoyed it. There was some language (F-word smattered here and there, I have noticed that a bit when a book takes place in England).
