This story has been so wholesome and cute. I can defintely tell that Fumino took the time and effort to research about hearing loss and deafness.

I liked that Kohei didn't want to learn sign langugage and how he turns around later. I also liked that fact that it should two sides of prejudice. One person just being an jackass, another wanting to be a savior to Kohei. Absolutely disgusting. It's an intersting dynamic.

I am excited to see how Taichi and Kohei's relationship is developed.

Reading Rush 2020

"I only need... people who are important to me to understand."

This was absolutely beautiful! It's been so long since a manga has made me feel such strong emotions to the the point that I literally start crying. The movie's not too bad either, if anyone wants to give it a go, though it only adapted this volume.

A very cute friendship/a early omantic relationship. I thought it highlighted the problems and inner struggles , that deaf people face in the world on a daily bases very well .

I'm doing a project in class on the representation of disability in manga. So far there seems to be more manga about hearing impairments than anything else. I think reading it with a school lens made me enjoy it less lol.

This was a great first volume! Took off a star because sometimes the art style made it hard to tell what was happening and Taichi was a little one-dimensional for my liking, but I still enjoyed it. While a lot of series centered around characters with disabilities tend to make that the defining trait of the character, this volume does a good job in making Kohei his own character. Granted, he's not exactly drowning in character traits and he doesn't get a whole lot of development, but I could recognize him as a character who has trouble hearing rather than a character who is defined by his hearing loss.

It was hard reading how a lot outside characters treated/saw Kohei, but it was painfully realistic. People who do not have disabilities, whether they be physical, psychological, or mental, tend to either treat them as pitiable creatures who can't do anything on their own or as burdens because the "normal" people have to make slight changes to accommodate the other. It's sickening and it was truly painful to watch, but it was so rewarding witnessing Taichi call out these assholes or beat them up. While Taichi wasn't the best protagonist ever I felt that his straightforward, wears-his-heart-on-his-sleeve personality not only complimented Kohei but was exactly what Kohei needed. While I feel the "romance" was rushed towards the end I definitely think these two would make a good couple and am rooting for them.

That's all I have to say about this volume, looking forward to volume 2!
