I think I'll always be in awe of J.R. Ward. This is truly someone who has a gift not only of writing, but also of a beautiful imagination. Her characters are all one of a kind, as is her story. She pulls the reader in, and you can't help but believe in this entirely new world that she's created. Start from the first book, and read all of them!
I little to much background on other characters
I had a difficult time with the way it kept branching off to multiple character stories. The newly transitioned males for instance, I feel their background stories should be part of their own book/story. Not that some of it wasn't critical to the story line, but some of it could have been left out.
It did eventually come back to focus on Phury and Cormia which have a great ending. Loved the way they both escaped the mental prisons they were bound to.

This Book
This book drove me nuts but I loved every word of it. Phury had me phurious one minute and loving him the next. I loved the way J.R. Ward incorporates the other characters in the story giving the reader little bits of tasty nuggets. You become more and more invested in this world with every page turn.
