The orphanage aspect of this story is what first called to me, and then the fact that a writer was researching her book really drew me in. I will admit, the comparison to Sharp Objects only heightened my desire to read this book.
I read Coram House while on a Caribbean cruise. Seybolt's ability to convey how cold this setting of a town in Vermont in winter is amazing. I felt cold even in the tropics.
This story has a huge twist, one that really surprised me. I had been thinking in a different direction but the author came in from left field with the ending to the book.
This one is definitely worth a read, though be sure you're in a warm space. I can't imagine how cold I would have felt reading it in a New York winter.
Hopefully Seybolt continues her career with more compelling novels. I'll be waiting for them.
I received a copy of this book from NetGalley.
