very vulnerable, well written, and silly in a mom sorta way. really interesting and provides a fascinating look into her career. i watched the today show *every morning* from 10-15 years old (i know) (i dont know how tf i watched so much tv w that and all the late night shows every single day) (i would always fall asleep at school probs for waking up at 5am and eating only tator tots at school) anyways it was fun+idek why theres such a hollabaloo about her shitting on fem reporters, truly she just shits on creepy execs, 60 minutes writers who stole stories, +cbs execs

I loved this audiobook SO much. Like- I’m two episodes behind on my favorite podcast- much. First of all, Katie Couric has lived a fascinating life. She became anchor of the today show in 1991, left for CBS evening news in 2006, then became a reporter and talk show host for ABC in 2011. Her job has allowed her to talk to all kinds of notable people- from presidents to those who have experienced great tragedies. As someone who grew up with Katie on the Today Show, listening to her talk about her experience and the notable events was like a walk down memory lane for me.

Katie is also very open about her personal life. She lost her husband, Jay, to cancer in 1998 when she had two small daughters. I shed tears as she described the heartbreak of Jay’s cancer diagnosis, treatment, and eventual death. She also talks openly about all of the dating she did after Jay’s death and about eventually meeting her current husband, John Molner. Her love for her daughters & her family shines in this.

Besides being interesting, Katie is very reflective and honest. She talks about comments and interviews that she regrets- like asking a transgender woman about her private parts- and shows a lot of personal growth. She also talks Matt Lauer, how she handled his firing, and why they not longer have a relationship. Additionally, she isn’t afraid to be honest about missteps in her career and conflicts she had along the way. I also found her reckoning with her southern roots and her deceased husband’s fascination with the Confederacy to be very interesting.

This book is very long. It's good and all--probably just the right amount of name-dropping, but just too damn long. tl;dr Katie Couric is a serious journalist.

In her book, Couric provided everything I want in a celeb memoir. It was juicy, she spilled the tea, and she dished on all the topics I hoped to read about. It was a little long, but I was invested and had a lot of free time, so it didn’t take me long to finish.

I think this is the first celebrity memoir that has made me cry, and I ugly sobbed three times. This is a looonnggg but entertaining audiobook that hits all the notes I want in a memoir - self-exploration, humour, and celebrity gossip. Couric somehow manages to show her darker side while still coming across as likeable. I knew almost nothing about her career before this and feel I learned so much about journalism through exploring her life.

5 stars for the book. I liked it. As someone who worked in news for 20 years, it was an interesting glimpse behind the scenes at the Today show and CBS nightly news. All of the office politics and the boy's club nature of the news business. It also explained why she chose to go in certain directions in her career which I never really understood.

2 stars for Katie Couric herself. Yuck. She takes very little accountability for her mistakes and poor choices and comes across as, well...bitchy.

I loved listening to this book! The short segments of actual audio footage was so fun to listen. I appreciated Couric’s thoughts on the sexual scandals in the news media and the BS women had to endure. Parts of the book got a little long, but clearly it did at the time as that was when Katie’s career started to tail spin. All in all, an interesting book!
