I enjoyed this one! Readers seem to be finding it really polarizing, and I honestly don’t understand why. I think the author was funny, self-deprecating, fair and balanced in her storytelling. For example, I’ve read reviews where readers fault her for “bashing her dead husband” when he can’t defend himself, when really she only talked about the difficulty her and her daughters have had in today’s climate understanding his love of confederate re-enactments and ideologies. I don’t consider this bashing by any stretch. I’ve also read reviews that she comes off as braggy, but I didn’t get that impression at all either. She’s definitely forthright at times in mentioning/describing some of her professional accomplishments, but good for her! All in all, I liked it. My only negative is that I listened to the audio, which I usually prefer when an author is narrating their own story, because you typically feel their emotion, but in this case, I think it was read with a bit of detachment…more like a news story, which is probably just a side effect of her career.
