Friedländer did an excellent job portraying the different horrors and effects of the Holocaust on the Jews of Europe. This book was very difficult to read due to its content, but for any scholar of the 20th century, this book is a must-read collection of primary sources combined with Friedländer's insights. I have heard that for more primary sources, one should seek out the unabridged copies, though this one held much of the same commentary.
