This is the first ever DC comics I've ever read and I'm positively surprised by how much I've liked it (I've already started reading the next one)

My first Nightwing story! A fantastic start to a run where the best batboy tries his best to build something good and lasting with his public persona and private vigilante one.

Life affirming good. I would die for Dick Grayson.
4.75/5 stars
Nightwing has always been one of my favourite superheroes - but ever since the Ric Grayson storyline, I had been hesitant to pick up one of his runs again. This is part of the reason why I had a lot of mixed expectations when I went into this, but I was pleasantly surprised.
First and foremost, I loved the artstyle. Everything from the outlines to the colouring was peak and it made buying the comic worth it just based on the art alone.
As for the storyline, I overall enjoyed it a lot. Like I said, I had not kept up with Nightwing as closely as I had pre-Ric-Grayson, so I definitely missed a lot. Yet, it didn't feel like I had. It was really easy to follow what was going on, and I was really thankful for the little references from time to time. But again, I have not kept up with Nightwing in a minute, so I am not blaming this run, but each were an unpleasant surprise. At least to me.
Another thing that has been a bit offputting to me, was the But I get it. Storyline. Character developelemt. Yada Yada-
Nevertheless, this entire volume has been really enjoyable to read. Especially the way Taylor highlighted the relationship between Dick and the people closest to him. There was just something so nice about going back to reading Nightwing after a few years and finding myself back in this setting - far away from amnesia storylines

Even though I didn't expect to go into this and find out that Alfred had passed (I refuse to find out how and why. I want to stay blissfully unaware.). Neither did I expect (or enjoy) the fact that somehow, Babs is now ?? walking ?? and not in her wheelchair anymore ??. I'm also not a fan of the "unknown sibling reveal" trope, so I doubt that I will continue to read this entire run in the future if this stays true.Another thing that has been a bit offputting to me, was the

letter Alfred left Dick. In his letter, he stated that he had required billions of dollars "ethically", which is a very weird thing to add. I understand that this is a feel-good comic, and I really appreciated the lightheartedness of it, but making Alfred an ethical billionaire just so it won't reflect badly on Dick is a choice. Especially considering that Dick is using the money to donate it now, which is something Alfred could have done himself.Nevertheless, this entire volume has been really enjoyable to read.
