This was clever and interesting. The gothic elements were really well done without going into horror. It wasn’t confirmed, probably because there wasn’t medical knowledge of it in their world, but I’m fairly positive the heroine was neurodivergent. Maybe on the autism spectrum? Esp with the struggle to understand emotions, picking up on social cues, and not always able to tell what her body needed, it made me think of peeps on the spectrum.
I LOVED all the snark between Artemisia and the Revenant. So funny and definitely my favorite relationship.
The only reason this is a 4 instead of a 5 was because of the ending. The last scene threw me off and either I didn’t understand it or something but I thought it was weird and felt abrupt. Good read though.

Im trying to read everything Margaret Rogerson has published because I loved everything she has put out. So me not liking this book is a disappointment. The book started very promising and there were many things I enjoyed still like the aspects of this story ( possession, relics, etc), the mc, and the revenant might’ve been my fav. As the book progressed, it got kinda slower and a bit repetitive. I don’t know why the middle was dragging out so much. And the whole time, I was eager to learn about the priest but he played such a small part in this story :(. It picked up a bit at the end which was good. Overall, it just didn’t work for me unfortunately.
Had no desire to continue to pick up the book, just couldn’t fully immerse myself in the book.
