I just don't understand how Sam is called the king of the underworld? This could have been a Hades and Persphone retelling instead of The Villian which was barely a recalling but LJ did not understand the assignment. If she did more research this series could have had so much potential in being a Greek mythology retelling. Sam and Aisling deserved better than this.

I enjoyed the first book of this series just fine, (The Hunter). The 2nd book (The Villain) I enjoyed it even more. But not this one.

I felt the plot twist was cheap and forced. Cat’s letter were a lie all along. Not surprising, but Sam should have known that if he is the baddest of the baddest. He got played by Cat from beyond the grave and that felt silly.

But then…

it turned out he was doing all that torturing to Gerald not because of that supposedly “unborn brother” or because he missed out on having a “mother” and he blamed Gerald. But because he resented he couldn’t have Aisling? Pft. I know all this is fictional but it doesn’t make sense.

What I did like was Aisling’s secret, what she did and why she did it. That was about the only interesting thing in the whole book but in any case that made her an angel not a monster.

Rushed and Ridiculous

I have truly enjoyed Shens other works. The Todos Santos series and the spin-off. The Hunter and The Villian were enjoyable as well. This book however seemed rushed and trite.

Like why?
