I think this series might be the best fantasy series I have read. I don’t want to say too much, but I genuinely love this series and all of the characters in it. All I have to say is wow.

Just like the previous ones this book is beautifully written. The characters are very tridimensional and I really liked the overarching story of this series, but I was not a fan of who it resolved and how this book in particular is handled. The way some character go from being good to be bad it felt more like a device to throw the readers off balance.
Specifically with Simon. The way he goes from being the good guy, to being the bad guy to another victim feelt forced to me.
This book also includes chapter with a lot more POVs than the first one. Some of them work great, some of them felt really unnecessary, specially cause those character didn't really do anything for the plot
like Navi. I love her, but she didn't really do anything
I often found myself skimming through those chapters to get back to main storyline. I also didn't love the way the main conflict got resolved, it felt too simple.
I would still recommend this series. It's is very unique and it handles the main character in a great way.

★★★

A three-star review? From Denali? I know, utterly unheard of. Let me just start by saying I really do want to give this book four stars, because I really did love it. This is a series I’ve enjoyed since the very beginning. The world of the Emperium is wonderfully imaginative, vividly romantic, and equally horrifying. Eliana and Simon are everything I could have asked for in an angsty pairing – there’s attraction, enemies to lovers (and then back to enemies?!), betrayal, rescue, and so, so much more.

But that being said, there were aspects of this book that truly did disappoint me. So much time was spent drawing out the love triangle between Rielle, Audric, and Corien that we didn’t get nearly enough time spent on the slowly disintegrating relationship between Eliana and Simon. And on top of that, we suddenly went from exclusive narration from Eliana and Rielle to a whole cast of characters narrating that derailed the story and made the pacing of this book incredibly slow.
