The Phantom of the Opera” is an absolute masterpiece. Reading this book was like stepping into a world of mystery, romance, and suspense that I didn’t want to leave. Written in 1910, it’s amazing how daring and layered Gaston Leroux’s storytelling feels even today. The humor and risks he took with his characters and plot twists are a testament to his bold creativity. Every chapter was packed with intrigue, making it impossible to put down. I was captivated by the haunting allure of the Phantom and the shadowy allure of the opera house. A thrilling read from start to finish. 10/10.

Certainly, one can notice it's an older book, I've adjusted my rating to account for that. Nevertheless, still an enjoyable book, with characters that practice being overdramatic as an extreme sport.

I contemplated rereading a spooky classic like Dracula or Frankenstein this year but instead decided to finally read one I never got around to while in my classics phase; The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Laroux .

I remember when the musical adaptation with Emmy Rossum & Gerard Butler came out (in my youth) I thought this was a dark, tragic sort of love story but now all I see is a very toxic relationship and the horror of it all. 😱
