I contemplated rereading a spooky classic like Dracula or Frankenstein this year but instead decided to finally read one I never got around to while in my classics phase; The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Laroux .

I remember when the musical adaptation with Emmy Rossum & Gerard Butler came out (in my youth) I thought this was a dark, tragic sort of love story but now all I see is a very toxic relationship and the horror of it all. 😱

It wasn't necessarily bad, I thought the plot was quite good and the idea was there, and I'm sure it makes much more sense in the original French, however I got so bored. Everything happened at the end and before that it's just Raoul and Eric yapping about how sad they are.
