I will be very blunt.

I read this when I was 15 (too young, I know), and even at the time I could not believe that a grown adult wrote this. It reads like a bad fanfic written by a teen.

I am not even going to get into this abusive relationship depicted as romantic, and somehow desirable. Shameful.

I think the second book was better than the first one, but that doesn’t make these any less painful to get through (though they are highly entertaining.)

Ana and Christian’s relationship dramatically improved, and this book took back the bad representation of BDSM that upset so many readers. The pacing and plot points are a bit messy, but I actually found myself enjoying this one.

This was my favorite movie in the series, but there’s something so good about the first book. Another 4 stars for this one though.
