i don't know what it was about this book, but every time i opened it it was like i entered a time warp where it took twenty minutes to finish a single page of text, and by the time i had finished any given page i'd forgotten what was on it, and i'd need to reread it, and any time spent with the book felt like a slow eternity. i spent half a year giving reading this book intermittently my best shot, and by the time i crossed the threshold of a hundred pages, by the time the protagonist and the love interest got married, i couldn't take it anymore. it's probably a fine book, but not for me lol

I love a spooky forest and this definitely delivered. I didn’t expect the interludes, but I liked it.

4-4.5!
A little confusing at times, and I wish we spent less time with Neve, but I was obsessed with Eammon and Red

This is even better than the first read through. Whitten writes her own version of a Grimm fairytale full of bloody body horror, eldritch magical bargains, and suspenseful storytelling. While the writing and creativity is very strong in this story, the character relationships are what really shine for me. A mix of red riding hood and beauty and the beast.

2 stars, DNF at 29%.
This books is beautifully written, the prose in this work is insane, hence why I decided to give this 2 stars.
However, I just couldn’t care less about anything that was happening

Everything about this book was beautiful. The prose, the imagery, the relationship dynamics, the story. I lose myself in this book and it took my breath away. The gothic, haunting reverberations of the Wilderwood were unlike anything I’ve read (other than maybe Mexican Gothic).
It is a bit of a long book, there were a lot of moments on the beginning/ middle that felt redundant with no great impact but I didn’t mind it. It wasn’t obnoxious or insanely noticeable. The vibes were immaculate and so was the storytelling!
