This book gave me all kinds of feels. I had a hard time believing this was Hannah Whitten’s Debut novel. I was expected a Red Riding Hood retelling but it did have quite a bit of a Beauty and the Beast feel to it. That being said, I truly did enjoy this book. The FMC can be a bit grating at points and I didn’t quite understand her strong willed nature immediately dissolving upon meeting the MMC. However, I personally found their story to be lovely. The idea of the magical woods and trying to keep the true monsters at bay. The story was a bit filled with riddles and confusion and I truly feel like somethings were never quite explained but, for me, I was still able to enjoy the story nonetheless. Nev was honestly the most irritating part for me. Often times when it got to her perspective I wanted to rush through and get back to Red and Eammon.

I overall enjoyed the story, it had some interesting twists and kept me invested. However, I felt like some character relationship were underdeveloped, and for several plot points the execution fell flat. In some ways I almost feel like it would work better as a video game than a novel, but still a fun read.
Moderate: Blood
Minor: Self harm
The magic system includes blood magic; the elements of SH are not mental health related.

Her mouth quirked halfway to a smile, then fell. “I’m for the Wolf.”
His thumb had brushed over her lower lip. “I’m for you.”
Themes in this book: a curse binding unwilling participants to the Wilderwood (a magic forest that keeps an entire shadow realm at bay from destroying their world), the love between 2 sisters and the lengths they will go to protect and save each other, betrayal and loss, found family and friendship in the most unexpected places.
Wow this book was so dang good. The magic in this was so well written, and so unlike anything I’ve ever read before. The world building itself was just f l a w l e s s.
I will say… the slow burn almost killed me, and honestly the only reason this wasn’t a 5 star read for me WAS BECAUSE I WANTED MORE OF EAMMON AND RED I WILL NEVER BE SATISFIED.
