Draws from multiple fairy tales

For The Wolf is a Beauty and the Beast retelling trying to hide as a Little Red Riding hood retelling. I'm not sure why. The only thing lending the Little Red Riding hood is the cloak that Red wears when she is "sacrificed to the Wolf. There is even a huge library in the Wolf's home and he has monstrous transformations.

The world-building and the story itself is unique and interesting, and I will probably at some point read the second book. You get viewpoints from the Red's sister throughout the novel, so you know what's happening outside the forest that's causing all the turmoil. The foreshadowing is a bit heavy-handed, so you just want to get to the point, especially with some of the flowery language that goes on a bit too long. However, tt is beautiful to read, so I can forgive that.

If you're here for romance, don't pick this book. The love story felt....I guess like there was no build-up and then they amazingly loved each other? Honestly, I could have done with the slow burn moving into a second novel rather than just a switch being flipped.

* For the Wolf was simply amazing. I loved this book and I am dying that I have to wait for the next one in the series!
The writing was excellent and the world building was magical and and original. This story was simply amazing. I've never read a story like this, completely original.
As the Second Daughter, Red has always been destined to go to the wolf when it was time. Her twin sister Neve, the firstborn will someday be queen.
When Red enters the Wildwoods to find the wolf, what she finds instead will surprise her and open a world she never could have expected.
I would say that this would be a good book for fans of Naomi Novik's Uprooted and Spinning Silver books. Highly recommend!

2.5

Characters were illogical and not very likable. World building was thin.  Romance did not have real tension.
dark mysterious

I thought this was pretty good--a story sort of partially based on Little Red Riding Hood and partially based on Rose White and Rose Red. The idea is creative, and the main character is pretty appealing. The love story gets pretty soppy, the various scenes in the wood are too repetitive, and a lot of the "fight scenes" are so convoluted I had a hard time following them. I enjoyed the story, but I doubt I will bother with any more in the series.
