I liked the writing and concept but the execution was like 50/50.

Very predictable, heteronormative romance, 500 year old god x 19 year old girl, very boring, no chemistry between the couple

I did not enjoy this book very much. It was so, so slow with large swathes where nothing really happened. The characters didn't really feel developed, especially the side characters. The romance comes out of no-where - that is incorrect. It is so heavily foreshadowed you can see it coming immediately, but nothing tells you why. Why does she like him? I guess he's good-looking, self-sacrificing and protects her. But why is that romantic love? Why does he like her, who must seem like a toddler to him, considering the age gap?
What bothered me the most, however, where the chapters from
the sister's
POV. They revealed everything! If there was a mystery in the main story,
exhibit A: the disappearance of the sentinel trees,
you can bet it actually isn't a mystery because the other POV has already told you everything about it!

Atmospheric debut novel about a second daughter that is sent into the woods as a sacrifice. This story is a inventive reimagining of Red Riding Hood, filled with magic and strong female characterization. I’d recommend this book for fans of Uprooted or other fairy tale retellings.

The writing style is something you have to get used to. There were times that the descriptions of actions got confusing or jumped around a bit. However, it is a fun and original twist on the story of Little Red Riding Hood.
