Well that was an interesting, and maybe slightly confusing read. :)

I would recommend this for kids age 4/5 to 9. It is a really terrific book. The illustrations are really fun, and it was nice to see the whole treehouse in detail.

The characters were so-so. I didn't really like Terry, he was a bit cocky. The way they acted (to each other and also towards others) reminded me of the Angry Beavers.

It was a fast read too. Didn't expect that, considering the book was 200+ pages, but I got through the book in less then an hour.

Totally BONKERS. Nuts. Crazy. My son wouldn't stop laughing.

Listening to this in the car is probably not the best way to read this book. I knew from browsing in the library that it was full of visual jokes and comic-style panels, but we needed a new book for the car and the 7-year-old liked the sound of this. As you wish.

I was bemused, to say the least. For adults and those with their cynicism radars tuned to 'sensitive', this is basically a stream-of-consciousness tale of a writer and illustrator struggling to come up with the next book and procrastinating while getting started.

To my son, it was a liberating and hilarious story set in a treehouse with marshmallows and swimming pools, with mermaids, monkeys and dogs that wouldn't stop barking. And sea monkeys. The 'story' is as I've already described - Andy and Terry are late getting a new book to the publisher, and have several misadventures on their way to finding a new plot.

This had me almost hitting my head on the steering wheel in 'wonder' (I don't mean that in a good way!) as I listened to the word 'drip' several dozen times in succession, the word 'bark' as expressed by a dog at least twice as often, and sat there enjoying seeing my son in the mirror chortling away at these same moments. To be young again.

I'm being cynical, yes. It's perfect for the target market of course. I'm three decades past that, so don't listen to me. It's not one I'd recommend on audio I think, the humour does require a page to see the jokes on. Though the story is adapted slightly to cater for the listener, we will get the others on paper.

My boy has already (one day later!) read the next instalment from the library (by himself! At 6am!) and wants the third. Recommendation enough.

Silly, silly, silly. But ideal to get an open book in their hands. For ages 7-11.

I mean, I get it. And for your Diary of a Wimpy kid reader who's read everything, it would maybe serve as a poor man's Greg. But the longer this went on, the more eye rolly I was feeling. That being said, it's a quick read-I read it in an afternoon!
