I didn’t really connect with either of the main characters. I also didn’t really understand their connection and the MMC spent so much time only wanting to bed her, that it was off-putting. He went from “I’ll never get married or have kids” for 95% of the book, to then in the last hour changing his mind and being fully onboard. FMC clearly stated her boundaries multiple times, and he kept pressuring her. Bit of a turn off. The side characters had more personality

Helen and Winterbone were more interesting in this story. D and K were a fine match, but not much chemistry to go off of

Devon Ravenel, the man you are. Lisa Kleypas strikes again, I was a bit concerned when the beginning didn’t grab me as quickly as both first books in the Wallflowers and Hathaways series did, but I should never doubt Lisa Kleypas and her ability to write wonderful characters and a steamy romance to die for. I can’t wait to keep going with this series.

A lot of reviews seemed to dislike this book, especially Devon. Personally, I think the plot fell victim to Kleypas setting up her new series and characters. I found Winterbourne and Helen (and West) to be far more interesting characters and it seems that maybe Kleypas did too? She spent a lot of time setting their book up and establishing side characters. It makes sense, but it was a disservice to Devon and Kathleen and their relationship.
