Years before the Phantom Menace. We are introduced to a Padawan named Keeve. She is participating in a trial to become a Jedi Knight, put in place by her Master Sskeer. However, the trial goes awry. The trial is revealed to be a test from the Jedi Council. One which Keeve passes. Master Sskeer is experiencing very bad PTSD from his prior fight in which he lost his arm. He is tempted by the dark side. This leads them to a planet overrun with Drengir, a moss like creature strong in the dark side. Sskeer snaps out of the trance, only to realize this is all a plan for the Hutt cartel to take over Drengir. Sskeer sacrifices himself to take out the Drengir.

I dont read comics often but I’m dabbling as part of the High Republic series and this was really good.

Finally I’ll get to see what’s happening with Avar and the Drengir!!

I really liked this first volume. The multi-media release of THR allows for some great deep dive into different characters despite the sheer number of those introduced. Cavan Scott does a great job tackling trauma with Skeer.

And Avar 🥰 I love her! Great to see glimpses of Vernestra and Imri too! Definitely a great way to start this

This comic is entertaining and fun. I disliked Sskeer's arc - his mistreatment from Avar Kriss and his mysterious motives made me dislike both the characters.
Ceret and Terec are cool concepts, but not explored too well. The drengir make cool villains, and the inclusion of the hutts worked quite well.
