I was ready to be blown away by this book and it didn't deliver as much as I had hoped. It was an interesting read, I thought it would be something new and different, but I was just not that impressed. I did read it one sitting because I really wanted to know what happened in the end. But I feel the plot and the idea had a lot more potential and overall I was a bit disappointed. I expected it to be a lot more heart wrenching, but in the end it almost felt a bit Twilight-y in some ways, a little too typical of teen fiction. Not quite the new and different I wanted.
This book was amazing! I really enjoyed Gemma's story; it was filled with emotion and amazing detail. As I was reading I felt everything Gemma was feeling: anxious, afraid, curious, hopeless, angry; it took me from one moment to the next.
My only complaint would be the pacing. It was a little slow because there aren't any chapters and there is massive detailing with lapses in dialogue, which generally I need to keep interested. Despite that, it was still engrossing from the very first couple pages.
I love the fact that Gemma's story is told in letter form to Ty, her captive. It really gives insight into every feeling, every thought, every experience as it happens and it made me feel like I was there with her; her conflicting emotions towards Ty were so real because I felt them along with her.
It had me spinning from one emotion to the other and grinning in satisfaction at how it ends. Overall, this book intense, realistic, and had me flipping through the pages. It is a must read!

When I was first recommended this book , I found the concept different . Instead of an omniscient narrator , it was a book written from first person to another character in the book . Already , I wanted to know was this letter ( the book ) actually going to be given to someone , if the writer was going to break the fourth wall , or was this just going to be an interesting way to tell the story .
Well with that out the way , this book was amazing . I feel that the author did a great job of making a known situation such as kidnapping into something deeper . I liked how the story wasn't just straight forward and blank and white , but instead have the plot and characters depth. Even after reading the book , I still am not completely sure how I feel about the characters but I am sure that I am happy I was recommended this book and would recommend this book to others .

I liked this book, but I didn't particularly like the writing .. it was a little too descriptive for my taste, without enough dialogue. The story was interesting, but also reminded me a little of "Room". I think I would have enjoyed a deeper dive into the Stockholm syndrome, what sentencing the captor received, and how the main character, Gemma, was reacclimated into society upon her release.
i really thought i was going to hate this book. i mean, a girl resisting falling in love with her hot kidnapper? puh-lease. but its goodreads rating is killer and i found it at half price books, so i figured why not. but i was wrong: this was a good book.
i am not easily won over by YA romantic storylines, i like to think, and especially not those that appear to be based on stupid decisions like in this book. but the kidnapper and the victim were both full characters, and i was able to at least understand their reasoning while i internally screamed at them to stop being weird. at times, i even understood the more romantic feelings, so that's saying something.
but still, even a not-horrible take on a storyline i hate is a storyline i hate. so i can't give this a very high rating - it was incredibly on my nerves at points.

3.75 stars! This book was a great idea. I loved the concept of the whole Stockholm Syndrome thing. It just felt like the book was lacking something. I kept reading to see what was going to happen next, thinking something big was going to happen, then nothing much did. I was a little disappointed.
I've never really read anything like this before. I was hooked from page one and couldn't put it down until the last page. To this day, I still reread it and feel the same rollercoaster of thrill, fear, and curiosity that I felt when I first picked it up.
Loved it!! Every teen should read this book. I felt divided between love and hate sometimes for Ty and other times for Gemma.
Ok, pretty sure no one can say this book isn't extremely predictable. But I was STILL surprised by how it ended!
Totally awesome, definitely deserving of the Printz. Don't know why in heck we don't have it in our JY collection, it'd circ like mad.
