Super riveting and somewhat terrifying. This unique story captivated me from the start. Very raw and so realistic! I loved the ending more than I thought I would.
It's unlike me to not read a book through until the end, but this one honestly bothered me too much. I guess it's time to find another summer reading book for Honors English...
This books starts out like a bad fanfiction. The whole entire second person writing style was confusing to read through. (Used differently it might have been interesting) The stereotypical blue-eyed pretty boy thing just made me want to vomit. (can we start romanticizing dark eyes?) The focal point of my frustration with this book is that it's glorifying kidnapping. In reality, what kidnapper is as nice and attractive as Ty is portrayed as being? Their relationship was unnaturally forced, which I found disgusting. I thought this was going to be a better book due to its ratings, and maybe it was to other people. Just not my cup of tea.

Lucy Christopher’s Stolen, weaves a tale that keeps you on the edge of your seat and allows you to experience Gemma’s constant terror and her always wavering hope. This story is written as a letter from Gemma to her captor, Ty, that tells the compelling story of her kidnapping. Over the years I have reread this book several times and I am still amazed at the emotion Christopher is able to convey and the struggle I still feel towards Ty. This is one of my all time favorite books!
Yeah, I don't think there's anything special about this. I was bored for most of this... The ending kind of tied it together for me, even though it leaves some important stuff unanswered, but while I'm just satisfied.
Ein Coverkauf wäre dieses Buch für mich nicht geworden. Mich sprach jedoch der Klappentext an. Neben all den Fantasie-, Krimi- und Dystopieromanen war er für mich einfach mal was anderes. Eine Entführungsgeschichte war für mich etwas Neues.
Die Geschichte wird in Briefform dargestellt. Schon zu Beginn wird klar das dieser Brief an Ty adressiert ist. Sie beschreibt in ihrem Brief Ty, sich selbst, ihre Gefühle und insbesondere das Outback sehr eindringlich. Man bildet sich manchmal ein selbst die Hitze auf der Haut und den roten, heißen Sand unter den nackten Füßen zu spüren. Dieser Stil die Geschichte zu erzählen, gefiel mir grundsätzlich gut, weil Gemma auf diese Weise greifbar wurde. Trotzdem konnte ich nicht so recht warm werden mit ihr. Ich konnte keine wirkliche Verbindung zu ihr herstellen - dies gelang mir erst sehr spät, quasi kurz vor Ende des Buches.
Ty lernt man nur durch den Brief von Gemma kennen. Seine Darstellung ist daher etwas einseitig. Rein äusserlich betrachtet konnte ich mir den attraktiven jungen Mann gut vorstellen, aber alles unter der Oberfläche wurde für meinen Geschmack nur angekratzt. Gemma stellt natürlich Fragen und man beginnt zu ahnen warum Ty das getan hat. Was ihn dazu getrieben hat das Mädchen mitzunehmen. Ich konnte mich eher in Ty hineinfühlen als in Gemma.
Der Schreibstil ist leicht zu lesen gewesen. Natürlich gab es mal ein paar Wörter die ich nicht direkt übersetzen konnte, aber der Inhalt ergab sich aus dem Kontext. Ansonsten habe ich ja für solche Fälle das Wörterbuch im TolinoVision. Mir fiel es also nicht schwer den Inhalt zu verstehen, was wohl auch daran liegt, dass das Buch für Jugendliche / junge Erwachsene geschrieben worden ist.
Obwohl das Buch nicht reißerisch, blutig oder ähnliches ist, konnte es mich ab der Hälfte packen. Da entwickelte sich eine gewisse Spannung und Dynamik und verschiedene Seiten der Charaktere - insbesondere bei Ty - wurden sichtbar. Trotzdem hat mir etwas gefehlt. Das Ende ließ mich unzufrieden zurück. Ich hätte mir ein geschlossenes Ende gewünscht - egal ob mit oder ohne happy davor.

Ein solider Roman für junge Erwachsene. Wer Lust hat, wie ich einfach mal was anderes zu lesen, darf hier gerne zugreifen. Ein interessanter Roman mit kleinen Schwächen.

This was a pretty quick read, definitely captivating. It was a little bit of a let down that the “end” wasn’t really in her hands.

Unpopular opinion incoming. Sadly I didn't finish this book because I lost interest in it almost half way through. I felt like I read enough of the book to know where it was going and because of that I lost all care. The book started out strong but then it lost that uneasy/suspense feeling. I felt like there was no real threat to Gemma anymore. I skipped to the last five pages of the book and am so happy I saved myself the time. This is unfortunate because the synopsis sounded so interesting and I was so excited to read it but unfortunately it just fell flat for me. I commend the author for trying something new and creating her own unique story. I love the idea of the book but not the book itself. While this book didn't do it for me I can see this appealing to other readers.

Good book - interesting premise on the back of the horrendous crimes and kidnappings we keep hearing about worldwide. I read this on a long haul flight and it held my attention but it did feel like it was just an odd book.
I've read My Stolen Life and this books tries to be a fiction book about this type of crime... And I don't think I like it. But then so was Room and I thought that was one of te best man Brooker Prize books in the recent years.
So verdict: Maybe it just wasn't executed as sympathically as I would have liked. but still, worth a read.
