This book was a wonderful mix of time travel and fantasy. Richly detailed and entertaining.....Storytelling at it's best!!!

Sorry, I was really liking this book and then it took a turn I couldn't follow. It's the same kind of turn as when you're reading a book about a guy with a gun and the author writes that he put a clip in the .357 and instantly all credibility is lost. I loved seeing the idea of 1600's witch hunt turning up an actual witch. And then! The witchcraft is tied to worshipping... Dun dun dun... The devil. If the author had bothered to find out the one thing consistent about all occult variations she would have found that the one thing they all have in common is that they do not believe in the devil. Nope, not going to finish. And that is a first for me... Too many books out there to read to waste time with a bad one.

DID NOT FINISH

Didn’t finish. Just ANOTHER book about rape

I liked this book. Quick and easy read. It was predictable, but most books are.

An interesting history of a witch’s life. The story is framed as modern diary entries with 3 vignettes depicting different points in Bess Hawksmith’s life: 17th Century plagues and witch hunts; 19th century Ripper murders and surgery; and the frontlines of WWI nursing.

Book 2 of my 24 hour read-a-thon. Not disappointed. A tale of outrunning evil over centuries. I thought I had a cunning twist worked out but I guess it was the more obvious choice in the end.

Maybe I’ll read book two. I am curious what it holds.

I really wanted to be able to give this a higher rating. But I was so conflicted while reading it that I couldn't justify it. I love the flashbacks to Elizabeth's life. In fact I would have been content with giving those a solid 4/5. But it's the sections in present day that leave me wanting. There was not enough development, in my opinion of the relationship between Elizabeth and Teagan. It wasn't believable to me. And the Teagan character is quite honestly not very likable. So I find myself torn, I relished parts of the book, and found myself skimming over the rest. I am very disappointed, having read another of Paula's books and loving it. Would not read again

I picked this audiobook up because I saw it on a “best books of ___” list or something, and it sounded intriguing. I LOVED the story telling. The audio was fantastic, too!
Part way through, I was wondering how this might become a series, but the ending definitely seals it well enough AND allows room for there to be a second… which I will be also reading!

If it had stayed modern fantasy I would have loved it but the historical romance just wasn't as interesting.

So...I have to admit...I kinda dug Gideon in the beginning...of course by the end I was all well you're a creepy devil...but still...

I liked this book...I actually liked the slips into the past more than what was actually taking place in the present. It kinda felt though that once we got to the last 20 pages, it was wham bam thank you ma'am the END...

It was a good book though and I would recommend it if witches are your thing...and they're my thing as a lover of all things supernatural...so yeah...read it :) I know I'll definitely be reading Paula Brackston's The Winter Witch.
