This was going to be a 5 star or at least a 4.5 because I love witchy historical fiction. But the ending was so abrupt and random and disappointing I can’t give it that rating in good conscience.
I can't abide a book where the MC is drawn to a man she catches raping someone. And the second rape scene in chapter 9 was too triggering for me. Horrific.
Graphic: Rape, Toxic relationship, Grief
Moderate: Child death, Death of parent, Pandemic/Epidemic
Minor: Animal cruelty, Sexual harassment
This was not what I expected by far. It was good read though. I liked how the author slipped back and forth through time.
Overall the story was entertaining but it felt like it was an 800+ page book. The ending was off too, just didn't fit the rest of the story.

I very much enjoyed the parts of this book that take place in the past. However, the present day narrative was was too "hippy neopagan" for me. It seemed like two utterly different books.

I tried to like his book, the premise was good, the first historical part of the story was alright but that just couldn't carry it. It really just bugged me that someone who lived for as long as she did just never changed and the other immortal type characters also never changed. I also can by that the bad guy who new her for all of 5 minutes would keep chasing her 400 years later. Seriously he would have gotten bored with that long ago and moved on to someone else.

[T R I G G E R. WARNING]!
***sexual assult, r**pe***
I'm unsure about the physical book but the audio vsersion doesn't have any pre-cautions which is concerning.
It's rather cruel not taking this matter into consideration. I'd overlook but it won't be the case for others.

Second thing,
I'm not into witches in humans world but I always try to read out of the zone.
The narrator has a calm voice and her voice acting is nice!
I quite enjoyed many parts of the story that I hoped they were the main idea.
Maybe if there were a variety of POVs and third person singular I'd have enjoyed it better.
Anyways, the flow was too slow paced I couldn't survive the first 30 minutes of listening. A year passed (now 2022) and yay! finally into the mood of calm yet magic related stories so I went on with it.
The story would have been great if it time travelling had been one of the genres, or just took the past as the main. Mostly unrelated back and forth past-present switching was confusing and made me lose the track of the story.
My very least unjoyable part is the present with the teenager,I can't tell why but scattered and nothing connected is what I felt. It could be because I didn't feel connected to the protagonist so i couldn't care less.
I'm sorry when I sound mean,I know that I'm no author or writer but as a reader I was somewhat disappointed. Still I would get the book one day for moods of reading something calm yet has some chaos.
[[Spoilers alert]]

I really wished that that she would develop some powers, learn something new, meet others like her but none happened. How she developed all was so vague. It's true that in the end the teen has the POV but that barely changed much as I just could tell how it would end.

2.5 stars rounded up to 3. Started off fantastically, but lost me along the way.
